Sophie Chapman is Leighton Hall Auctions’ specialist Valuer and Head of Jewellery, bringing nearly twenty years of experience and an exceptional depth of knowledge to the team. Trained at Christie’s, Sophie has built an impressive career working with some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, including Phillips, Bonhams, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), and The Wallace Collection.

As a freelance auctioneer, valuer and cataloguer, Sophie specialises in jewellery, silver, gold and precious metals, alongside fine art, textiles, arms and armour, and bronzes. Her broad expertise, combined with a keen eye for detail and strong understanding of the evolving auction market, makes her an invaluable asset to both the team and clients alike.

Sophie now leads Leighton Hall Auctions’ specialist jewellery and fine antiques valuations, held on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month. Whether assessing a treasured family heirloom, valuing a recent purchase, or uncovering the story behind a unique piece, Sophie provides thoughtful, knowledgeable guidance with precision and care.

Her passion for jewellery began early, at just three years old, Sophie was already exploring her mother’s jewellery box and declaring every sparkling find to be treasure. She’s been a treasure hunter ever since.

Sophie is particularly excited by 19th-century and earlier jewellery, unusual and rare finds, and, of course, anything that sparkles. Friendly, approachable and deeply knowledgeable, Sophie brings enthusiasm and expertise to every valuation.
